Sabrina Ma - Percussion
Born in 1985 and originally from Hong Kong, Sabrina Ma is a multi-percussionist based currently in Berlin. She collaborates with authors (composers, writers, filmmakers, choreographers) and performers (musicians, dancers), switches roles depending on the situation - recitalist, orchestra soloist, performer, chamber musician, tailor-makes recital programmes to meet special thematic needs, creates percussion-based music for mixed-media productions and works with next-generation creatives in workshops and masterclasses.
She has performed in Europe, Asia, North America, Australia and at such festivals as Donaueschinger Musiktage, the Ferienkurse für Neue Musik Darmstadt, Lucerne Festival Academy, Warsaw Autumn, Time for Music Viitasaari, Klangspuren Schwaz, Bozen Transart Festival, Internationale Kammermusiktage Homburg, Fringe Festival Torroella de Montgrí, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Roaring Hooves Festival in Mongolia and Two Days and Two Nights of New Music Festival in Ukraine.
Ma’s performances have received state and city funding from such institutions as Musikfonds, Goethe Institut, German Music Competition, German Music Council as well as the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Sabrina Ma has won multiple awards, including the Prize of the German Music Competition (2013) and 1st Prize in the Solo Category of the 14th International Competition for Contemporary Music in Poland (2010). She received her education at the University of Michigan (USA) under Prof. Michael Udow and at the University of Music Karlsruhe (Germany) under Prof. Isao Nakamura.
