Sharon Chan focuses her practice in transdisciplinary performances, curatorial work and research. She is currently Producer and Company Manager of Théâtre de la Feuille, a physical theatre company based in Hong Kong. She was previously General Manager of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble from 2012 to 2019, and was Creative Producer for Special Projects of the Ensemble from 2019 to 2020.
Apart from her work in arts management, Chan regularly takes the stage as performer. Her recent performances include Rama Gottfried’s Grass Geometry (Rümlingen Festival, 2024), Scavenger (Théâtre de la Feuille, 2023), Venture into the Unknown: Eroica Reimagined (The Orchestra Academy, 2022), #1314 (Théâtre de la Feuille, 2021) and Tino Sehgal’s These Associations (Tai Kwun Contemporary, 2021).
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chan graduated from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2007, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Translation. In 2011, she attained her Master of Philosophy in Musicology from the University of Hong Kong, with a thesis on the dramaturgical aspects of opera production and performance. In 2021, Chan completed physical theatre training course “Physical Acting Lab”, designed and taught by Ata Wong, accredited teacher of the Jacques Lecoq’s pedagogy and Founder and Artistic Director of Théâtre de la Feuille. Chan has a deep passion for playing the theremin and has been studied under the internationally renowned thereminist Carolina Eyck since 2022.
Working closely with composer Charles Kwong in artistic and curatorial practices since 2018, the artist duo co-founded PROJECT21st in 2019, a platform for artistic research, experimentation and new commissions. The duo is currently undertaking the MA in Transdisciplinary Studies at the Zurich University of the Arts.
Chan is also a certified 200-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher awarded by Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Research Community by John Scott Yoga.
